Tim’s favourite Henley tipple to enjoy this summer.
The iconic blue and white tents are up and this can mean only one thing – Regatta is on the horizon and soon Henley will be awash with colourful blazers and statement fascinators. These longer summer evenings paired with Regatta anticipation has got us in the mood for a tipple (or two). After a long day working hard at Henley’s best estate agent, our team enjoy a warm afternoon relaxing at our local pub or at home in the garden.
Our beautiful town of Henley not only looks picture perfect in the sunshine, it is also home to some of the best beverages in the country. This hub of fine alcohol creation has inspired our latest blog, so sit back, relax and take note of our favourite drinks to enjoy this summer, with a twist of local expertise.
The Year of Gin
The Guardian states that “British drinkers have been quaffing gin in record amounts during 2016”, declaring it the “year of gin”. One year on and the popular spirit is still basking in the alcoholic limelight. It couldn’t be a more apt time to launch Henley’s very first gin, created by the Hobb’s boating empire. Mr. Hobbs Gin is best served over ice with a slice of orange peel and Fever Tree Mediterranean tonic water.
Time for wine
Humid summer evenings are best remedied by a cool, refreshing glass of rosé. Our favourite, and top recommendation from local wine merchant Woods Wines, is Olivier Coste. The fresh and dry Grenache blend is best paired with chicken and fish. Do you need a better excuse to fire up the BBQ this evening?
Pimms with a twist
No self-respecting Henley resident will be without a bottle of Pimms in their drinks cabinet. Pimms is the traditional drink of choice served at the popular enclosures at Henley Regatta and it’s remains a firm favourite with our lettings team at Peers and Hilton. Add a few tablespoons of vibrant pink rhubarb syrup to your next jug of Pimms and enjoy how the bitter sweet flavours perfectly complement fresh cucumber on your palette. We recommend making your own rhubarb syrup for the best flavour. Bosley Patch is your first choice to buy your organic, locally grown produce. Depending on the season rhubarb will be available to buy on site or their market on a Friday morning in Waitrose carpark.
Top 3 Pale Ales
When it comes to beer and ale, we are spoilt for choice in Henley. Tim loves a pale ale and his top favourites are from local brewery powerhouses Loddon Brewery, Rebellion Beer Co. and Brakspear. Here’s our top 3 IPA of choice this summer:
Rebellion IPA – a copper coloured, easy drinking beer. Well balanced malt and hop flavours continue to a long, refreshing and clean finish.
Brakespear Session IPA – a golden straw-coloured ale, built with a variety of US hops giving a grapefruit, pine nose and spicy hop finish.
Loddon Brewery Forbury Lion IPA – packed with a full malty flavour and a strong complex hop finish.
